Gil Alterovitz, PhD, Fellow in Biomedical Informatics with the Biomedical Cybernetics Laboratory, wins the the First Prize at the Student Paper Competition of the 2006 Annual Symposium of the American Medical Informatics Association in Washington, DC. Dr Alterovitz is also awarded the Martin Epstein Award, bestowed on the winner "if the first place paper is truly extraordinary".
